The architecture and people visiting Cottonwood Mall provided quite the challenge for the ten of us who showed up to sketch this past Saturday. Who knew that there were so many angles, curves, lines to capture. And there were people…who chose to change their position about the time one wanted to start sketching. Ah, such is the life of an Urban Sketcher.
We learned that there were different approaches to capture a scene: Juliana likes to starts in the lower left hand corner of her sketchbook and works out, adding detail as she goes along. Chuck uses a grid to provide some boundary for his detailed sketches and Jessica chooses a center focal point and builds her sketch from there.
It is always great fun to see what catches the eye and all of our different styles. Here’s what we did:
