What a beautiful fall day we had this past Saturday when we sketch at the living history museum, Rancho de las Golondrinas. 16 of us showed up, most brought lunch and several stayed after to sketch.
Here’s what we did:
Fifteen of our group got together this past Saturday to sketch at the Unser Racing Museum. What a delightful surprise to see this wonderful collection of Formula 1 racing cars along with a separate collection of vintage 1920-30’s vehicles. All of us discovered that sketching cars provides a myriad of challenges.
Our new leadership, Jay Leutwyler, Daylene Horn and Zeke Browning will be planning this event. Please save the date and look forward to learning what they’ve planned.
This is a new venue for us – Albuquerque Union Station at the Alvarado Transportation Center, 220 1st Street SW, Albuquerque, NM. I don’t know about parking around the station but some research says there is parking on Central Avenue.
We will meet from 10-12 Noon, share and the find someplace for lunch.
The Albuquerque Botanical Garden is always a favorite venue for our group. We will gather at the main entrance at 10:00, do our usual two hours of sketching and then share around noon. For those who want to have lunch, I believe there is a restaurant on-site.
Albuquerque Botanical Garden, 2601 Central Avenue NW, Albuquerque
Saturday, October 21, 2017. 10:00-Noon. Admission: Adult $10, Senior $5.50
PLEASE NOTE: We will be meeting on SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1st starting at 10:00 AM at the Albuquerque Railyard Grower’s Market located at 777 1st Street, Albuquerque
IMPORTANT: BRING YOUR OWN CHAIRS/STOOLS TO SIT ON WHILE SKETCHING. Last year, it was brought to our attention that some of our members were taking up table space of paying customers.
This venu provides lots of variety for sketching: architecture, still life displays of beautiful vegetables, and people. Hope to see you there.
This “living” history museum is a beautiful place to sketch. You can check out their web-site for more information and directions. There is an admission cost of $6 for adults, $4 for Seniors. If you plan to stay into the afternoon ( there is so much to capture in your sketchbook) bring your own picnic as there are no food vendors on non-festival weekends. There are covered picnic areas and bathroom facilities.
El Rancho de las Golondrinas, 334 Las Pinos Road, Santa. Fe, NM
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2017 starting at 10:00 AM. We will do our usual sketching for 2 hours, share and then picnic and perhaps sketch more.
This park is an absolute gem in the Albuquerque City Park System. Twenty of our group showed up and did some amazing work. The best part of the day was when I was able to announce that Jay Leutwyler , Daylene Horn and Zeke Browning have agrees to co-coordinate our group activities starting with the December 2 meeting.
Here’s what we did:
I apologize for the late posting of our sketches at the Plaza on June 17th. Several members traveled to Santa Fe by the early train and seemed to enjoy the experience . After sketching and lunch, many explored the Museum of Art just off the plaza.
Just a reminder: I will no longer be coordinating this group after the November, 2017 gathering. I hope someone will step up to take over – otherwise, the group will no longer be. I would be very happy to answer any questions as to what this coordinator job entails. Barbara
